Time for a confession – one of my sartorial guilty pleasures is a windowpane suit. I love a striped suit (pin or chalk), solid grey flannel or deep blue are also favourites, but there is something about a windowpane that is really special.
This week, I’ve gone for a charcoal windowpane from the Hardy Minnis Fresco III line, in a versatile 310g/m weight. You’ll wear this suit for three seasons easily, and it’ll be a mainstay of your wardrobe.
My first bespoke suits, ordered 20 years ago, included a windowpane that is not dissimilar to the Minnis cloth. I wore it as a banker in the City of London for the better part of the past two decades, and it was always on point in that most traditional of settings. It is rakish enough, however, to wear in less stuffy and formal settings. I’ve even, I’m not ashamed to admit, worn the jacket with jeans. This is the beauty and versatility of windowpane!
Paired with Tuesday’s Shirt of the Week, this suit will become one of your go-to pieces, a vital part of your wardrobe. It’ll always be stylish and timeless, and you’ll go back to it again and again. A must-have!
